T he Philadelphia Police Explorer Cadet Program offers training to young adults ages 14 -20 who are interested in a career in the law enforcement profession.

Qualifications
 
14-20 Years of Age
copy of birth certificate required
 
Explorer Cadets who are under eighteen (18) years of age are required to have a signed consent form from their parent or guardian.
 
Have no arrests or convictions which would prohibit employment as a police officer.
 
Be in good physical health and be able to participate in physical activities.
 
Must maintain a passing behavior or character grade while in high school.
 
Must be able to attend mandatory Saturday training sessions.
 
Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written directions and be be able to communicate both in writing and orally.

How to Apply
Registration forms can be printed out from the Explorers registration link on this website and delivered in person with their parent/guardian present (if under 18 years of age) for an initial interview Saturdays 9:30 a.m. at the Philadelphia Police Academy.
o  Applicants must dress in business attire or school uniform.
o  No Jewelry permitted except for wrist watch.
o  Bring Notepad and two pens
o  Gym attire and sneakers in duffle bag required
o  Packed lunch and a bottle of water.

What is the Police Explorer Cadet Program?
The goal of the Police Explorer Cadet Program is to teach young adults the values needed to succeed in a law enforcement career and in life.

o  Self-Discipline
o  Self-Confidence
o  Self-Respect
o  Teamwork and the desire to help others

The Philadelphia Police Explorer Cadet Program is designed to introduce young adult men and women 14 to 20 years of age interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

The program is designed to provide law enforcement training and experience to the Explorer Cadet through mentoring, classroom instruction, and hands-on training.
When Cadets reach their eighteenth (18), birthday and desire to continue in the field of law enforcement they are encouraged to apply to the Philadelphia Police Department and participate in the testing process.

Cadets must have reached their nineteenth (19), birthday at time of appointment to the Philadelphia Police Academy.

The Explorer Cadets provide assistance during many ceremonies and activities sponsored by the following organizations:

• Executive Fellowship Board
• Police & Fire Thrill Show
• Second Alarmers
• Law Enforcement Memorial Run
• Blue Knights Motorcycle Club
• Centurions Motorcycle Club
• Sgt. Joseph E. Le Claire Memorial Golf Tournament
• Dr. Martin Luther King Day, American Legion Henry Hill Post 385
…as well as other community-oriented organizations

Benefits
· Provides the Explorer Cadets with training and knowledge required of various law enforcement procedures and the laws.

· Provides community service hours/credits required for high school graduation.

· Provides promotional opportunities and/or pay grade advancements if Explorer Cadets
decides to join the U.S. Armed Forces.

· Provides excellent references when applying for employment opportunities with law
enforcement agencies.

· Prepares the individual for physical agility test required for all law enforcement agencies.

· The opportunity to tour/train at various law enforcement and correctional facilities and academies with local, state & federal officials.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Police Explorer Cadet Program is to guide young adults to a better path for the future, through training, leadership, teamwork, discipline, friendship and to assist the Philadelphia Police Department and the citizens of Philadelphia through community service.

A chance to change, a direction in which to grow, a future on which to build, and a safe place to be.
